OHS Policy
At North East Civil Construction our occupational health and safety is based on a belief that the safety and well being of people employed at work, or the people affected by our work, is a major priority and must be maintained during all work performed. The public shall be given equal priority to that of our employees.
Our safety Policy commits to:
- Compliance with acts and regulations, codes, standards and best practices,
- Continuous improvement to the system and safety performance of the company,
- To achieve an incident free workplace,
- To make health and safety integral parts of every managerial and supervisory position,
- To ensure health and safety is considered in all planning and work activities,
- To involve our employees in the decision making process through regular communication, consultation and training,
- Providing safe plant and systems of work through hazard management,
- Provide written procedures and instructions,
- Provide consultative mechanisms for employees and subcontractors to raise relevant issues
- To provide a continuous program of education and training to ensure that NECC employees work in the safest possible manner,
- To identify and control all potential hazards in the workplace through hazard identification and risk analysis,
- To ensure all potential accident/incidents are controlled and prevented,
- To provide effective injury management and rehabilitation for all employees.
- Maintain a management system in accordance with AS/NZS 45001 requirements and integrates occupational health and safety considerations into business and project plans.
The success of our health and safety management is dependant on:
- Pro-active planning of all work activities with due consideration given to implementing OH&S controls that are suitable to each given situation,
- Understanding the total work process and associated OH&S risks,
- Ensuring the work team is totally committed to achieving our objectives,
- Ensuring that open and honest communication exists between management and all employees.
Environmental Policy
North East Civil Construction is committed to protecting the environment. Our operations will be conducted in a manner that is environmentally friendly, by reducing pollution, preserves natural resources, conserves heritage and reduces wastes. We are focused on pursuing our environmental goal of minimizing impact to land, water, air, flora and fauna.
To achieve our environmental goal, NECC aims to:
- Comply with environmental legislation, contractual and regulatory requirements,
- Maintain a management system in accordance with ISO 14001 requirements and integrates environmental considerations into business and project plans,
- Investigate, report and respond to all environmental incidents and implement corrective action to prevent reoccurrences,
- Returning the environment to ‘as new’ condition after works are completed,
- Reducing the greenhouse gas emissions and pollution by reducing fuel use, conserving energy and ensuring that plant is regularly inspected and maintained,
- Demonstrate appropriate leadership in managing the environment,
- Reinforce to employees and subcontractors their environmental obligations through NECC programs of induction, training and toolbox meetings,
- Ensure a NECC QHSE Officer is elected to aid the management of the environment,
- Ensure supervisors and the management team are responsible for NECC operations,
- Communicate our policy to employees, subcontractors and other stakeholders including the public.
NECC will respond to the environmental challenges that we encounter whilst completing works and contribute to the foundations of an environmentally sustainable future for our community.

Social Procurement Policy
This policy applies to all contracting and procurement activities at North East Civil Construction and is
the primary reference point for how all procurement should be performed to enable positive social outcomes through the delivery of goods, services and works.
North East Civil Construction are committed to adding value to our local region, including the social benefits through our Local Economic and Social Contribution.
LOCAL ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTION
Local Suppliers
- NECC is committed to buying from local businesses where such purchases may be justified on Value for Money grounds, while remaining compliant with the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and other fair trading legislation requirements.
- Wherever practicable, NECC will fully examine the benefits available through purchasing goods, services or works from suppliers/contractors within the local region.
Economic Development
- NECC will seek from prospective suppliers/contractors, where applicable, what economic contribution they will make to the local region.
- Such examples may include a supplier/contractor who:
- Engages and contracts with local suppliers
- Engages local sub-contractors
- Participates in apprenticeship schemes or employs apprentices when tendering for projects and upon award
- Contributes to the financial, social and environmental wellbeing of the region
- Enables the expansion, growth and servicing of local businesses and contractors
- Uses existing local businesses
- Sponsors local sporting clubs or events
SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION
Social Enterprises
- A social enterprise is a revenue-generating business with primarily social objectives that reinvests surpluses in the business or community, rather than being driven by the need to deliver profit to shareholders and owners. These organisations are commonly referred to as social benefit suppliers and include social enterprises, Australian Disability Enterprises, Fair Trade Businesses, Indigenous Businesses, and can include women-owned and minority-owned businesses.
- NECC will identify opportunities to work with social enterprises and other not-for-profit businesses in the local region that deliver social outcomes as part of doing business, either directly or as part of our supply chain.
Social Employment
- NECC considers social impacts when purchasing goods, services and works. Social sustainability focuses on the social (or people) aspects of sustainability and in particular social equity.
- NECC is committed to social procurement, effectively achieving NECC social objectives and facilitating employment opportunities to target communities in the local region via our procurement processes. NECC will seek to ensure social outcomes are achieved through our employment processes.
- Such examples may include employing or seeking to employ a person who:
- Is local to the region
- Works for a social enterprise
- Is an apprentice or trainee
- Is an Indigenous Person
- Is a person with a disability
- Is a women who works in the construction sector
- Is a disadvantage person (i.e. long-term unemployed people, disengaged youth, single parents, migrants and refugees, workers in transition)
